§ 3.3. Environmental control

    Laboratory of Industrial Effluents Treatment & Industrial Waste Processing and Gaseous Pollution Standards Sector are the main subdivisions being part of the Research Department and dealing with the environmental control issues.

    Gipronickel Institute pays great attention to the ecology problems, such as industrial and domestic sewage treatment, sludge processing, dust collection, decrease of air pollution level. Methods of integrated treatment, recycling and disposal of domestic waste are also of concern.

    Projects of maximum permissible emission standards have been developed for the following operations: Kolskaya GMK JS (Severonickel and Pechenganickel Combines), Norilsk Mining Company, Krastsvetmet Plant, Yuzhnouralsk Nickel Plant, Rezhsk Nickel Plant, Ufaley Nickel Plant, Buruktal Nickel Plant, Pobuzhsk Ferronickel Plant.

    At present, development of technical standards for emissions are underway for Kolskaya GMK JS operations (Severonickel and Pechenganickel Combines).
