§ 2.11. Pyrometallurgical Laboratory (PL)
The institute can boast of a highly qualified staff working in our pyrometallurgical laboratory. 16 members of the laboratory have a degree of Candidates of Technical and Chemical Sciences, 1 is a Doctor of Technical Sciences. Some representatives of the Department have scientific ranks - a senior staff scientist, a professor and a member of Russian Academy of Natural Sciences.
PL includes laboratories of autogenous and thermal-electric processes, a sector of pollutant emissions regulations and a team busy with pyrometallurgical plants maintenance.
The principal task of the department is fulfillment of research engineering and development projects, schedules of designs, raw materials testing, development of technical standards, scientific support and supervision of designs in part of raw materials processing and intermediate products.
Pyrometallurgical equipment includes:
Upgraded two-zone Vanukov furnace;
Skull furnace;
Autogenous aggregate with top blast;
Fluidised bed furnace;
Tube rotary kiln for drying, calcining and roasting;
Laboratory induction furnace (2100 oC);
High-temperature furnaces with heaters made of lanthanum chromite (1550-1600oC);
Different high-temperature furnaces with adjustable atmosphere;
Mass spectrometer gas-analyser for continuous and repeatable gas phase control in a wide range of compositions.
